Video Mystery Shopping Tip: Staying Upbeat and Positive!

Have you ever had one of those days when you just didn’t feel like doing much of anything? As if your ‘get up and go’ had ‘got up and went’ and left you behind?? Well, we ALL have days like that. And there are many different things that can happen in our lives to cause those types of days. Maybe you had a spat with your spouse, or perhaps you had to sit in traffic for an hour to get to work, or maybe you just didn’t get enough sleep the night before. Whatever the reason, it is perfectly OK to have a bad day, but it is perfectly NOT OK to take this attitude with you when you go to your sales office. You have to get your positive ‘mojo’ back and remain upbeat so you can sell some new homes!

I remember watching a video shop a few months ago, and the new home sales counselor was complaining to her prospects about what a lousy week she was having. She went on to tell her them that her boyfriend had left her, she hadn’t made a commission in months, and that she was over-maxed on her credit cards! OK, talk about a case of TMI!!! This was over the top! I wouldn’t want to buy a newspaper from this lady, much less a new home!

Being a new home sales consultant is a lot like being a Broadway stage actor or actress. When you are on-stage you must be at the top of your game,  giving your best performance each and every time. When you enter your sales office, you are walking out onto “your” stage!  Each prospect that comes into your office is your audience. You owe it to them to be at you best, and that means being positive in everything you say and do.

So, knowing that we can ALL have a “down” day once in a while, what can you do to stay upbeat and positive? I have a couple of suggestions that work well for me when I am feeling less than 100% positive.

  1. Take a deep breath and quietly talk yourself into a positive mindset! It works! We have the mental power to change our attitudes. Acknowledge why you are angry, upset or sad and make a decision to deal with it later. After all, the SHOW must go on!
  2. Keep focused on your long-term dreams and goals! Emphasize to yourself all the positives that are coming your way. Create a vision board with pictures of your dreams and goals.
  3. Turn off the TV and put down the newspaper! The media have done a good job these past few years of painting a very dismal picture of the new home industry. It’s enough to make anyone in the new home business depressed!
  4. Remember, you are the New Homes Sales star! Your prospects have come to see ‘your performance’, don’t let them down! The better your performance, the closer the new home sale!

Remember, this isn’t an audition after all, you got the job!
